Thank you for your recommendation. Yes it's touristy much more so than the windmills in Leiden but for good reasons. It is pretty easy to get to Zaanse Schans by yourself.

I believe during weekends there is a miller present who can tell lots of things about the windmill. In case you have your mind set on seeing a windmill on your trip to the Netherlands and may not have enough time to make a half or full day out of it, there are other options. Even a Frenchie did it, so I dare you to do so. I strongly recommend to go there by bicycle so much funnier and delightful. Keukenhof does have a windmill.
